Blurry Lenses: 4 Things To Do if You Can’t See Clearly

Have you ever just had one of those days where it seems like your contact lenses just aren’t working right? Maybe you have to blink a lot or just feel like things look fuzzier than normal…

Well, there are several possible reasons why one’s contact lenses may not seem clear. If you’re experiencing this problem, try the four steps below to see if you can identify what’s going on.

Step 1: Determine the date of your last eye exam.

Did you know contact lens wearers should get their eyes examined annually? If you can’t remember when you last had your eyes checked or if you know for a fact you’ve been working from a stockpiled lot of contact lenses that may now be an outdated prescription — then your vision may be blurry through your lenses because your eyes have changed.

Step 2: Determine the age of your lenses.

We all lose track of time. We get busy and two weeks turns into two months before we have time to stop and think about whether or not we were supposed to open a new pair of lenses. Although if you take impeccable care of your lenses you may get an extra day or so out of them, it’s not recommended that you wear your contacts for longer than the amount of time designated. In other words, if they are daily lenses — don’t stretch them another day. Weekly and monthly lenses need to be changed on time too. When lenses get worn longer than the life expectancy they were designed for, things can get blurry!

Step 3: Identify allergens.

Sometimes our contact lenses seem blurry because our eyes are actually suffering. If your eyes feel dry or “gunky” — even without lenses in – then that will impact how clearly you see through your contacts. It’s generally recommended that if your eyes aren’t completely healthy (red or bloodshot eyes included) you leave your lenses out until they are better.

Step 4: Check for cleanliness.

Nightly disinfecting of your contacts is important to keeping them clean and clear of mineral deposits and dirt. But, it’s still important to inspect your lenses and make sure they look pristine before you put them into your eyes. If there is visible dirt still on them, chances are there are invisible particles as well so clean and disinfect them again!
