Time for a Home Remodel? Choose Your Colors Carefully!

As the weather cools down many start thinking about tackling those indoor home remodel projects. Whether your motivation is to freshen things up or to do a complete overhaul, it’s important to choose colors carefully.

Why? Because science has proven that color matters. It matters to your productivity, your mood, even your stress levels!

Check out the list of colors below before you head to the paint aisle!

Gray

Everyone loves gray, it’s been the neutral of choice for the last decade. Gray gives the illusion of formal authority, so it’s a great choice if you have high ceilings or a space that you want to command attention. Be aware, gray can also represent pessimism. If you’re trying to create an inviting and inspiring work space or a play area for your children, use gray sparingly—or perhaps just as a back drop for other colors.

Red

Chances are you’re not going to paint your whole house in this color, but a nice adobe or muted apple color make a perfect accent wall in your home. Your eyes are stimulated by the color red and it creates an energetic response. Red might be the perfect accent wall for your family room or workout room, but it may not be restful enough for your bedroom. Feng Shui suggests painting your front door red.

Blue

Just like looking at the ocean or the sky, the color blue and all of its shades are peaceful and evoke calmness. Choose muted blues to make your bedroom a sanctuary of rest. If you have a stressful job, paint your office blue so you feel more peaceful. But take note – mosquitos are attracted to the color blue so avoid painting your back door this color!

White

When too much color overwhelms your home, perhaps it’s time to return to simple white. White can aid mental clarity and encourage us to de-clutter. Who doesn’t need help in that area? White cabinets appear clean, bright and inspiring. Choose to contrast your paint color with white baseboards and you’ll create a path your eyes can subconsciously follow around your home in low light conditions.

Green

Green is the most pervasive color in the world around us, making it an excellent choice for a room where you want to create a peace and calm. Use green accents in your bedroom or paint an accent wall a mossy green to inspire serenity.
