Our 3 Favorite Brands of Daily Wear Contact Lenses
Daily wear contact lenses may be the best invention since sliced bread, or at least the best invention since the original contact lens! With daily contact lenses you can put in a clean, fresh pair of lenses every single morning, see clearly all day, and then simply throw them away that evening. This is convenience only rivaled by microwave dinners and no-cook lasagna noodles!
Alcon’s DAILIES Aquacomfort Plus contacts, like most contacts in this category, come in packs of 90 daily disposable lenses. They boast three different moisturizing agents to keep your eyes comfortable, with superior levels of moisture, all day long.
Their triple action moisture system includes hydroxpropyl methylcellulose (HPMC), polyethylene (PEG), and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA). Though I’ve not personally worn this brand of daily lens, wearers claim that this formula works and these lenses stay moist. I’d say they are certainly worth a try!
This is one of my favorite brands of disposable lenses. I’ve worn 1-DAY ACUVUE MOIST disposable lenses for years. I save them for when I travel, mostly, because I like the convenience of not carrying cleaning solutions with me. The other reason I wear these when I travel? These lenses have very good UV protection compared to other daily disposable contact lenses. They block 82% of UV-A rays and 97% of UV-B rays. If I’m headed to a sunny destination, I know these lenses are just as important as my sunscreen.
Designed with a unique lacreon technology, a cushion of moisture reduces friction and provides unbeatable comfort. My eyes dry out on airplanes, but I’ve never had a problem with dryness while wearing 1-DAY ACUVUE MOIST lenses. I also like the light blue tint they have on them. It helps me handle and find them if the lighting isn’t great.
One time when I went to order more 1-DAY ACUVUE MOIST lenses my optometrist asked if I’d like to try the new Biotrue ONEday lenses to see what I thought of them. I was happy to oblige.
What did I find? I really liked them. These lenses are made from a next generation, bio-inspired material called HyperGel. They stay really moist and feel really great on your eyes. The outer surface of the lens is designed to mimic the lipid layer of tear film. This really prevents dehydration and, at the same time, allows me to see clearly through them all day long.
Moisture is the key when it comes to daily contacts, and I think the Biotrue lenses rank up there as one of the best. My eyes felt good wearing them. This may be because they have 78% water in them, just like our corneas. They also block UV rays like my 1-DAY ACUVUE MOIST lenses do. That’s another win!
