So, I set out to research the topic and read an article about an American woman who was desperate to change the color of one of her eyes.  She had been born with two different colored eyes and was willing to do anything to have this perceived problem permanently fixed.

When she learned that in certain countries ophthalmologists were performing iris transplants (the colored part of your eye), she flew to Central America to see if she could have the surgery.  She qualified and went for it.

Well, this story doesn’t have a happy ending.  The woman’s eye color didn’t turn out the way she wanted it to and, much worse than that, she is now having such significant problems with that eye that within a little while she will probably lose her vision in it, totally.

It seems that iris transplants and similar surgeries to permanently alter ones eye color are banned in the United States and Canada for good reason.  Most people who do undergo this very risky procedure have similar outcomes.  They face issues like glaucoma, cataracts, and vision-loss within a year of being operated on.
